Thoughts

Been wrapping Christmas Presents today, remembering that you taught me how to do it! When I was a child you’d have a coin jar where I’d save my pocket money (and money from my paper round) for Christmas Presents. We’d go shopping and choose everyone’s presents together and wrap them up in your living room. I shed a few tears today in your memory (I couldn’t help it) because I miss you everyday. The photo of you and me from Mums wedding sits proudly next to where I sleep and I look at it everyday and each time I smile, because you have always made me smile. I carry out my life and work hard and hope and pray that I make you proud! I can’t wait to visit your resting place on 23rd December with the rest of the family. I hope you will be there with us too. Love you always and forever. Your Grandson, David. XXXXXXX

Mum asked for this poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye to be read at her funeral:- Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.
